5 Mistakes Costing You Brand Deals (and How To Fix It)
You’re juggling a million things. Being a mom, content creator, house manager, maybe even working another job. You barely have time to eat your lunch. So when you finally do apply for a brand deal and hear nothing back? It’s discouraging.
But here’s the truth: a lot of creators are unknowingly making small mistakes that are holding them back, and the good news? They’re all fixable.
Though some might seem minor, it's important to remember brands could be reviewing hundreds of applications, so don’t give the human who is reviewing a reason to skip you!
The Mistake | The Solution |

You didn’t fill out the application correctly or followed directions. | Brands won't chase missing details. Pay attention to notes on each question for insights into their expectations. |
Portfolios are hard to review; your videos autoplay when you go in it, it has broken links, colors that don’t contrast and makes it hard to the eye to focus, or the portfolio is still a Canva slide/presentation. | Publish your portfolio as a website using Canva or another platform. This ensures updates are visible to everyone with access. Disable video autoplay and check all links! For a free portfolio template, use the one in our free roadmap. |
There is no video of you talking to camera. The brand can’t vision you with their product if they don’t know how you sound. | Record a short intro for your portfolio or add a video in the first spot that it starts with you talking to camera. It makes a huge difference for trust. |
You changed your social media username or e-mail after applying, which changes your profile link, and makes it hard to find you. | This is why portfolios are crucial because changes update automatically for everyone with the link. |
You skipped the "optional" pitch section or other optional sections that you could have easily filled out. | Opportunities receive a lot of applicants, so brands often review the pitch or optional sections first to see who aligns with their preferences and may be more interested than other applicants. |
